San Candido, Nature and Traditions

San Candido, famous tourist destination in Three Peaks in the Dolomites has wonderful nature but it is famous for history, culture and traditions too. Try a really Alpine luxury holiday in the East of South Tyrol in Summer or in Winter season. It is the high valley of the Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage. 
In winter this country delights you with its panoramic ski pistes and 200 km of perfectly prepared linked cross country ski tracks.
The skiing region Baranci, situated only few minutes from the centre of the village, is family friendly becouse offers a large children’s play park. San Candido and the holiday region Three Peaks are a paradise for cycling fans and mountain bikers wit 44 km gently downhill on the Val Pusteria cycle path through picturesque villages to Lienz in East Tyrol.
San Candido has city flair and upholds the Alpine traditions: thanks to its pedestrian zone it is good for shopping  or eating tipical food.
People preserve Alpine traditions. In Sesto and in other locations near San Candido, history and modernity meet during the Gustav Mahler Music weeks, the Alto Adige Festival and the Alta Pusteria International Choir Festival.
Churches and religious buildings should be visited carefully for their important historical value. The Innichen Monastery Church is the first example of Romanesque ecclesiastical architecture in the eastern Alps. It was erected from 1043. The Dome fresco is the largest monumental in romanesque style still existence. It tells the biblical story of Creation in individual pictures.
In the centre of the village, St. Michael's Parish Church in the Romanesque style was remoldeled after 1735 into a Baroque jewel. The Baroque's impetuous impulse toward the still greater liveliness of the Rococo becomes pronounced in the interior. It is apparent throught the vault frescoes by the ingenious Christoph Anton Mayr.
In San Candido, hotels offer has high levels of comfort.

It extends from the village of Moso through the Three Peaks nature park to the Rifugio Fondo Valle hut. Surrounded by flowers, wonderful woods, rustic pastures and impressive rock formations.
